Cómo mezclar estampados

A la mayoría de las personas nos gusta lo seguro. Total, es lo más fácil, verdad? Pero como todo en la vida hay que tomar riesgos de vez en cuando, porque si no las cosas serían muy aburridas!

El tema de esta semana trata justamente sobre eso: acerca de salir un poco de nuestros moldes y atreverse a hacer cosas diferentes con la vestimenta mezclando estampados. Les parece impensable? Pues les digo que no! Atrás quedaron esos días donde era inconcebible juntar diferentes prints en un mismo outfit. Hay muchas maneras de hacerlo pero hay que tener cuidado en el cómo, ya que no siempre el resultado es el mejor. Por eso hoy empezaremos con la forma más básica, que es respetar la misma paleta de colores aunque utilicemos estampados distintos.

We all love to stay safe because it´s the easy way to make things, right? But the truth is, we need to take risks sometimes because life would be very boring without them!

The topic of this week talks precisely about that: getting out of our molds and be dare enough to do different things with clothing by mixing prints. Do you consider this unthinkable? Let me tell you, it´s not at all! Those days were you couldn´t even conceive to have an outfit with mixed patterns are gone. There are many forms to do it but you need to be careful how, because the result maybe won´t be the best. So, today we are going to begin with the easiest one: respecting the color palette even if we wear dissimilar prints.

Este short es una prenda especial para mí. A pesar de que andaba buscando algo más colorido, admito que me enamoré de él tan pronto lo ví. Está hecho con una tela muy fresca, además los motivos tribales me cautivaron tanto como el corte alto en la cintura, su forma acampanada (fabulosa para los cuerpos con silueta de triángulo invertido como el mío) y los bolsillos que trae. La verdad no puedo pedir más comodidad! En la misma tienda donde lo compré buscaba un top que le hiciera juego y aunque había una pieza que combinaba perfecto, no me convenció del todo. Entonces recordé que tenía en mi clóset esta clásica blusa negra con lunares blancos y corrí a buscarla. El resultado fue genial!

These shorts are a special item for me. Despite of the fact I was looking for something more colorful, I admit that I felt in love as soon as I saw them. They´re made with a really fresh fabric. Besides, tribal motives captivated me in the same manner that their high waist, their flared shape (fabulous for inverted triangle silhouettes like mine) and their pockets. It´s impossible not to feel comfortable! In the store were I bought them, I also searched for a top and I found a blouse which matched perfectly but it didn´t convince me completely. Then I remembered I had in my wardrobe this classic black shirt with white polka dots. I ran to seek it and the result was great! 

Manteniendo el color negro como base unificadora, todo lo demás fluyó solo al momento de seleccionar los complementos. Y aunque los estampados de estas prendas son de diferente tamaño, el look se ve bastante congruente. Les gusta? 

Keeping black as the unifying color, the rest of the outfit flew by itself at the moment of selecting the accessories. And although the prints of each piece have diverse sizes, the whole look looks very cohesive. Do you like it? 

Otra mezcla que funciona excelente consiste en juntar elementos iguales en distintas escalas, por ejemplo, lunares pequeños con lunares grandes. También queda bastante bien utilizar el mismo estampado en diferentes colores, o escoger un print dominante con un acento. Y cuando no sepas como combinar prints complicados, un esencial que no falla son las rayas. Son tan sencillas de mezclar que se han convertido en un básico como el color negro o el denim. El truco para quedar regia con esta última opción es hacer que coincidan los colores. Se atreverían con una propuesta así? 

Other mixture that works pretty well consists in blending equal elements with various proportions, for example, small dots with big ones. Another option is wearing the same print with complementary colors. Choosing a predominating pattern with an accent. And if you are not sure about mixing complicated prints, stripes are an essential. They are so easy to combine that they have become in a basic, like denim and black. The trick to be gorgeous with this last choice is to make colors coincide. Do you dare with an outfit like this?
